Based upon the famous passage “To Everything There is a Season”, Norman Dello Joio’s Meditations on Ecclesiastes will open the concert. Awarded the 1957 Pulitzer Prize for Music, this composition is a musical interpretation of the opening chapter of the Biblical Book of Ecclesiastes.
The concert will be rounded out by Gustav Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite, Paul Lewis’ Rosa Mundi, Gareth Walters’ Divertimento, and Edward Elgar’s Serenade. The Holst and Elgar pieces will be familiar to many concert-goers, while the rarely heard gems by Lewis and Walters are sure to delight experienced and novice listeners alike.
